In a report published last Thursday, FIDH and the Permanent Assembly for Human Rights in Bolivia (APDHB), recognize the historic progress made in the area of the rights of the indigenous populations in Bolivia. Nonetheless, the same report advocates the Villa Tunari - San Ignacio de Moxos road works remain suspended as long as a proper consultation process is not undertaken with the communities of the Indigenous Territories of the Isiboro Secure National Park (TIPNIS) in order to obtain prior, free and informed consent.

Forest Offsets in California’s Cap and Trade Program

We write to urge you to stop the inclusion of international REDD+ offsets (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation) into California’s Cap and Trade program. Emissions trading systems have failed to decrease emissions while offset projects have continually disregarded the rights of local communities and are inherently flawed. The undersigned organizations send this letter to warn against including international REDD+ credits which will inevitably worsen environmental and social conflicts.

Defender of the rights of LGBTI attacked at the Colombian congress, during a forum on equal marriage.

At the forum called by the president of the Human Rights Commission at the Senate, Edgar Espíndola, on the implications of equal marriage, Daniel Antonio Sastoque demanded not to open a space for equitable debate. Sastoque was attacked by unknown persons and the police attempted to force him to abandon the room. Additionally he was harassed by bodyguards of non identified public officials.
