AHMEDABAD: Students of HK Commerce College on Thursday went on a flash strike to register their protest against the action of the college authorities to collect a fee of Rs 800 a year for the skill development and foundation course.

As the college asked the students to pay the annual fee of Rs 800 for the skill development and foundation course, the students came out on the streets and shouted slogans against the decision of Gujarat University (GU) to increase the fee. Through a notification, GU has increased the existing fee of Rs 100 to Rs 400 per term.

So for a student, the annual fee for the course has been raised to Rs 800. The students have threatened to launch a stir if the decision to raise the fee was not withdrawn. Members of the National Student Union of India (NSUI) have even raised a hue and cry over the increase in the fees.

In another development, GU formed a fact-finding committee to look into the incident where a professor had asked a student to leave the examination hall after he was found not wearing the identity card around the neck.###
