Production at the Manesar-based auto parts manufacturing firm Munjal Kiriu came to a standstill on Tuesday after its workers went on strike over the assault of some of their colleagues by the company’s bouncers, sources said.

The incident reportedly occurred on Monday when the bouncers attacked a group of suspended employees protesting at the company’s gate, injuring five of them.

An FIR was registered on Tuesday evening against three top officials of the company, as well as 20 unidentified people, after scores of workers protested outside Manesar police station.

The company’s management suspended 65 workers on the charge of inefficiency last month.

"On Monday morning, the suspended workers were protesting (against the move) at the company’s gate when some of the hired bouncers attacked us," said Surendra Kumar, one of the suspended employees.

Following this, other workers of the company also came in support of their suspended colleagues on Tuesday and went on a tool-down strike. However, it’s not clear whether they will resume work on Wednesday.

"The management is said to be agreed on taking back 50 suspended workers but our demand is to reinstate all of them," Kumar said.

Meanwhile, workers also alleged that they had long demanded constitution of a trade union in the company but the management always refused it.

Kuldeep Jhangu, leader of Maruti Suzuki Employees Union sector 18, said their support with Munjal Kiriu workers will remain till their demands are met.

Munjal Kiriu is one of the biggest suppliers of auto parts to Hero Motocorps and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd.###
